Motorola breaks even in Q2 |

Motorola reported a small net profit of USD 4 million, or zero cents per share for the second quarter, improving from a loss of USD 28 million or 2 cents a share a year earlier. Revenues tumbled to USD 8.08 billion from USD 8.73 billion a year ago amid continued weakness in its handset business. Sales of mobile devices fell 22 percent year-on-year to USD 3.3 billion, and the company shipped 28.1 million phones in the quarter. Motorola said it maintained its market share compared to the first quarter. The mobile division division posted an operating loss of USD 346 million, versus a loss of USD 332 million a year earlier. The Home and Networks Mobility segment generated sales of USD 2.7 billion, up 7 percent compared to the year-ago quarter. Operating earnings rose 28 percent to USD 245 million. Sales at Enterprise Mobility Solutions rose 6 percent to USD 2.0 billion, and operating profit improved 24 percent to USD 377 million. Motorola forecast earnings from continuing operations in the range of zero to 2 cents for the third quarter and 6-8 cents for the full year, excluding any further restructuring charges. The Home and Networks Mobility and Enterprise Mobility Solutions divisions are expected to continue to show sales and margin growth in the second half of the year. The company said it made progress during the quarter on plans to reduce costs and spin off its mobile device business, but did not provide any further details. (52RD.com) |
