Intersil Corp. and Zhejiang University have launched a cooperative R&D project with the opening of the new Power Management Research Laboratory at the university based in Hangzhou, China.
Intersil stocked the new lab with the latest test equipment and a variety of chips. Dr. Zhang Junming of Zhejiang University will manage the facility. Intersil also presented to the university six scholarships to support graduate-level research in power management electronics.
"Zhejiang University is known for being China’s leading research institute in power electronics, which has become a high-growth, labor-intensive industry. High-quality engineers are very much in demand," said Zhang. "The joint lab will be a good platform for cooperation between Intersil and Zhejiang University in power electronics research and applications. We expect the new lab will be extremely helpful in training the next generation of engineers and creating new reference designs for the industry."
Research activities at the lab will cover all aspects of power electronics—power management, high-frequency conversion techniques, induction heating, motor drive and electrical traction, renewable energy and numerous other applications.

"Getting practice at solving real customer design puzzles will ultimately help these students become more successful when they leave the University, and Intersil will benefit from the exchange of reference designs and technical information with these talented students."
